How Loud Should White Noise Be for Baby?

August 31, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Less than 50 decibels loud must be the white noise. More than 50 decibels may harm the baby earing system. So parents should be careful about it.

The concept of noise is relative: a sound that suits you can be a detestable noise for your neighbor, which will qualify noise nuisance.

The noise is evaluated in decibels, measurement of the intensity; it is not necessary to have a measuring device moreover expensive. Be aware that a familiar conversation voice has a power of about 60 decibels (DB), the noise of a busy street, 80 decibels, a disco 110 decibels, a plane takeoff (100m) 130 decibels. Beyond, the pain is intense and unbearable. And baby? No way of knowing what is for him, sound, or sound. What is certain is that he hears the sounds in his mother’s womb. He recognizes sounds: voice, music, while his auditory system is not entirely formed. His inner ear will be around two years old.

If you test your sensitivity to noise, you will find that some noises arouse interest, others will cause tears and troubles. The precautionary principle must apply no noise above 60 decibels for a balance of your child and the sound development of his hearing acuity.

Exposing your baby to a sound more significant than 80 decibels can have irreversible consequences by destroying hair cells. This is serious because we do not know how to repair an impaired hearing.

On the other hand, the effects of noise are not only hearable.

Noise causes sleep disturbances. The World Health Organization recommends a maximum threshold of 30 decibels to ensure adequate sleep; any peak above 45 decibels is prohibited. Surprisingly, noise exposure causes a narrowing of the visual field. During schooling, we know that noise impairs concentration and learning. Living in a noisy environment promotes high blood pressure and other cardiovascular conditions.

It sounds that help your baby flourish:

The “soft” music, which means no vigorous intensity (in decibels and frequency), it is not a question of style, but sound quality; clearly, the guitar solo in the treble is to be avoided. The voices of a normal conversation are beneficial; they develop his attention.

In the noises to prescribe:

Conversations with loud and choppy voices, all high-frequency music, sounds of automobiles, motorcycles … but also those of game consoles and television. The television that makes choppy sounds most of the time, with high frequencies (screams and music). Indeed, so far, one of the leading causes of the side effects stated above!

Your baby is tiny and very sensitive to noise; you have understood that it is to isolate it during this festive moment. If he is with you, install him with the other cubs in a quiet room and be supervised by someone you trust. Better yet, let him be on guard this evening with a grandmother or a friend!
