How to Adjust Binoculars?

July 23, 2020 By Miranda Jackson 1 Comment

If you use binoculars, it may happen after some time that the binoculars have visual deficits . Especially with older models, it may be that the lenses move quickly and thus creates an image that is no longer considered acceptable. In the following guide, we will show you how to detect when binoculars are misaligned. Also, hints and tips are given, how to adjust the binoculars suitably. With the right steps, the adjustment can be implemented very quickly.

Recognize the misalignment

Before you dare to adjust the binoculars, you should first determine whether this is a case in which you need to adjust.

For the right test, You should place the binoculars on a firm surface. Alternatively, you can order a tripod in the online shop and use this as a basis. The binoculars are clamped in the tripod and held. Then you look through the binoculars and try to identify objects.

Important: The binoculars should not wobble during this step. There must be no external influences to the falsification. When can maladjustment be determined? The answer is simple. Once you have dropped the binoculars or it has not been used for a long time, and the test just mentioned gives an error, it is a misalignment. Mistakes can be identified by the fact that sharp images look blurry. If this error occurs, you must adjust the adjustment manually to get a good picture again.

Adjust the binoculars

If you have noticed maladjustment, the next step is to adjust the components. For adjustment, most binoculars on both telescopes have small screws, which are often mounted next to the diopter compensation. These screws are called adjustment screws and can be used to perform the adjustment independently.

stepHints
preparationTake the binoculars and fix it on a solid surface. Afterward, you look through the binoculars and fix your eyes as straight as possible, which can not move. Recommended are edges of houses or walls. Look alternately with the left and right eye through one lens at a time and thus check which telescope is adjusted incorrectly. You will notice a misalignment if the edges as a whole would not converge. The effect? The edge of the house could be crooked with a lens, but it just appears on the right side.
adjustmentNow take a screwdriver and turn in tiny steps on a screw. First, adjust the page where the house edge looks crooked. You can adjust the other lens if necessary, but this is usually not necessary. Turn the screw until both edges come together again.

Important: The adjustment is not always the same for everyone. If the adjustment is successful, it may still be wrong for other people. Only case-by-case decisions help here to solve the problem.

Advantages and disadvantages of the adjustment of a binoculars

  • clear view
  • little effort with a little practice
  • blurry images due to wrong settings
