How to Avoid Overheating of Phone?

December 5, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Several situations can cause a smartphone to overheat. This can be an external or internal factor to the phone. Excessive use of certain apps or features, exposure to heat, and many others can also cause. It may damage the phone or cause a malfunction. To avoid this situation, here are some tips to follow.

Pay attention to the battery temperature.

This precaution is undoubtedly the most important to avoid overheating the smartphone. This is the first component to heat up, especially if the smartphone has aged. Besides, a battery that tends to heat up quickly discharges. Note that there may be explosion risks. Therefore, it is important always to check the battery’s temperature, not only to preserve the device but also its user. To do this, dial the code * # * # 4636 # * # * to get all the information about the battery, including its temperature. This should not exceed 30 ° C. If the temperature often exceeds 40 ° C, the battery should be replaced. It is also advisable not to use your smartphone when charging; a practice easily causing the device to overheat. Thus, the phone must be allowed time to charge properly before using it.

Avoid exposure to heat at all costs.

The sun is the first source of heat; it is necessary to avoid medium or long-duration exposure. Indeed, this can quickly alter the functioning of the smartphone. In the short term, it becomes less responsive and starts to bug.  Over time, the components of the phone will deteriorate. Whatever its finish, metal or plastic, heat remains a major danger in particular for the screen and the phone battery. Indeed, tactile interaction is likely to no longer work. Besides, the battery drains much faster. To avoid all these problems,  putting it in a cool place or the shade is recommended.

Completely close all applications.

Some apps, even if they have been closed, continue to run in the background. These are usually those that require geolocation or social media applications like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. This will put more strain on the phone’s processor and be a cause for overheating. To avoid this, do not hesitate to go to the phone settings, manually close the applications,  or even force them to close.

Decrease the use of certain applications

If the phone starts slowing down and bugging, the overheating can manifest itself quickly. Usually, this can come from using power-hungry and CPU intensive applications such as 3D games. To avoid endangering the smartphone, it is best to avoid long gaming sessions. Besides, it should be allowed to cool down at the first signs of overheating. Favoring games with fewer graphics options is also a solution to avoid overheating. Another tip is always to close these apps when not in use.

Avoid doing certain actions at the same time.

Every year, smartphone makers compete for power and performance. However, even with the latest models, overheating problems are still possible. Indeed, if certain actions are carried out simultaneously, the phone can easily overheat. For example, the owner uses the device to shoot in high definition while being exposed to the sun or activates the connection when the light is full. Thus, it would help if you always preserved your phone by using it optimally to avoid overheating problems.

Always bring the smartphone out of the car.

Leaving your smartphone in the car, mainly behind the windshield or windows, is to be avoided. The damage can be more than just exposure to the sun. Indeed, in these places, the temperature can quickly rise. The glove box is not recommended either. If the phone needs to be left in the car, it is best to place it near the air vents.

Reduce the use of certain smartphone features

When not in use, it is best to avoid continually activating certain functions of the telephone, which may cause it to heat up quickly. This concerns, in particular, the WiFi or data connection, Bluetooth, or GPS location. Disabling them is recommended to help cool the phone. It will also consume less energy. Note that reducing the brightness is also another tip to fight against the overheating of your smartphone.

Do not put on a protective shell.

Protective cases are particularly effective in preventing scratches and damage caused by falls. However, these accessories do not protect against heat. The shells, especially the plastic ones, do not allow heat to escape. They tend to isolate it. Preferably, the smartphone should be allowed to breathe in summer or during exposure to high temperatures by removing the shell. This also applies during games. Besides, some models have been better designed to protect the smartphone from heat. These are recommended if the presence of a shell is essential.

Use the correct charger model.

Sometimes people are tempted to use standard USB cables and chargers for all of their devices. However, this practice can cause overheating problems during charging. Indeed, some of these devices can deliver more power than the accessories supplied with the smartphone and cause the battery to overheat. So, always use the original charger and cable that came with the phone. Otherwise, it would help if you chose the same charger model.

Clean or reset the smartphone

One of the advantages of having a smartphone is the ability to install various applications on it. However, sometimes it is difficult to remove them. In this case, apps build up on the phone and can cause overheating. Thus, to avoid the smartphone slowing down, it is better to uninstall unnecessary applications and keep only the essentials. It is also possible to completely reset the device if the overheating problems persist. However, before proceeding with the reset, backing up all stored data is required.
