How to Clean a Deep Fryer?

June 29, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Since fat sticks easily to the fryer, it is essential to clean it well, as often as possible. Of course, it is a task that we do not appreciate but which can still be done easily. To help you, we offer some practical tips for cleaning a fryer.

1. Clean the fryer regularly

It must be cleaned before each change of vegetable oil to prevent the fryer from becoming too greasy, l. And above all, don’t forget to regularly change your fryer oil to ensure perfect cooking for your fries.

So when should you change the oil in your fryer?

Depending on the model you have at home, it is suggested to change the fryer oil after 8 to 10 uses.

2. Soapy water to wash a fryer

The first free and simple tip is simply the use of water and liquid dish soap!

Here’s how to do it:

  • Pour boiled water into your fryer by adding a few drops of liquid dish soap.
  • Then start the fryer to clean it (for several minutes).
  • Repeat as necessary if there is still grease on the inner surface of the fryer.

3. Clean a fryer with white vinegar

White vinegar is used to clean up a ton of stuff and surfaces in a home, so why not use it for cleaning the fryer?

  • Add equal amounts of boiling water and white vinegar to the fryer.
  • Start the fryer and let sit for several minutes to dislodge all the fat.

Add soda crystals to the mixture for even more effective and deep cleaning of the fryer.

4. A homemade cleaner with salt and vinegar

This time why not mix white vinegar with salt or even baking soda?

The fat inside a fryer can be difficult to clean and dislodge. With a slightly more abrasive mixture, this task will become much more manageable.

  • Pour white vinegar into the fryer and scrub the entire interior.
  • Then sprinkle salt or baking soda on the surfaces and rub again.
  • Repeat as necessary and rinse the fryer bowl to finish cleaning.

The fat in the fryer will quickly be dislodged with this mixture of vinegar and coarse salt.

5. Degrease a fryer with flour!

Beyond cleaning, it is undoubtedly the degreasing of the fryer, which is the most difficult to do. Once the oil change is complete, here is how to use the flour:

  • Use a paper towel to remove excess grease.
  • Then sprinkle white flour over the entire interior surface.
  • Again use paper towels to scrub and clean the fryer.
  • Repeat as necessary and rinse to complete cleaning.

6. Clean your fryer with a claystone

The claystone can also be useful for cleaning the fryer! Either way, it is a natural product that you should all have at home since it can be used for a multitude of household tasks.

Claystone is, therefore, an effective and natural way to wash and degrease the fryer. This product can be used with just lukewarm water and a sponge.

Once the cleaning with the claystone is finished, do not forget to rinse the appliance well before putting in the new vegetable oil.

7. Degreasing the fryer with black soap

Similar to the trick with claystone, black soap is another product that can be used for degreasing the fryer.

Black soap helps dislodge fats when mixing it with a little baking soda. So you can scrub the inside of the fryer with this mixture.

8. Clean the fryer with hot, very hot water!

If you use the fryer frequently to make homemade fries, then more frequent cleaning is recommended. Here’s what you can do:

  • Empty the oil from the fryer into a large container and strain it to remove unwanted residue.
  • Boil water and pour it quietly into the fryer (be careful not to burn yourself).
  • Operate the fryer for 10 to 15 minutes and repeat if necessary.
  • Empty the water, dry the tank thoroughly with paper towels, and replace the filtered vegetable oil.

9. Clean the outside of the fryer

Now that you know all the tips of cleaning the inside. Here’s how to clean the outside of the fryer.

  • Soak absorbent paper (paper towel) in household alcohol.
  • Rub the outer surface of the fryer, emphasizing the grease spots.

It is also important to wash or replace the fryer filters regularly to avoid the smell of frying all over the house.

10. No Bleach!

Some grandmother tips and remedies sites say bleach can be used to clean a deep fryer. Big NO!

Ok, if you want to wash the outside of fryer with a mixture of water and bleach, it is possible but never the inside, never the inside of fryer… Never!

Bleach is toxic and harmful to health, as are oven and insert cleaners.
