How to Clean Aluminum?

June 27, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Several objects can be aluminum in the house, on the car, or elsewhere. And as with any other material, aluminum must also be maintained and cleaned. But do you know how to clean aluminum?

Not always easy to know and clean everything. This is why we offer here really effective tips and products to clean aluminum easily. Good cleaning, friends!

1. Clean the aluminum with baking soda

Baking soda is not only useful for removing bad odors in the refrigerator; it is also useful for cleaning aluminum objects.

So if you need to remove black stains from aluminum, this tip is without a doubt the solution for you. Here’s how to do it:

  • Mix soapy water with baking soda.
  • Soak a sponge in this mixture.
  • Rub the aluminum to remove stains.

For more stubborn stains, you can use a soft bristle brush to rub the aluminum. You can also add a little more baking soda for even deeper cleaning.

2. How to clean the blackened aluminum?

Is your aluminum object blackened and very dirty in places? If yes, then the claystone is probably the product you need to buy.

The Stone of Clay is a natural product and respectful of the environment, so why without depriving all the more since it can be useful for a multitude of household chores at home. It is ideal as a cleaner for aluminum and other surfaces and metals.

3. Wash the aluminum with soapy water

Often the simplest tricks are the most effective. So before buying products in-store, why not just test the soapy water for cleaning aluminum?

  • Mix water with dish soap
  • Soak a sponge to clean the aluminum.
  • Use a soft brush for stubborn stains.
  • Rinse and dry the aluminum thoroughly.

A super simple tip for cleaning aluminum but also useful for cleaning and making several other surfaces and objects shine.

4. Glass and aluminum cleaner

Another handy tip for cleaning aluminum is the use of glass cleaner, quite simply. Depending on the fragility of the aluminum and the window cleaner you have at home, it is better to test on a small area to start. This will prevent damage to the aluminum surface if the glass cleaner is too reliable, for example.

5. Ammonia for shining

Ammonia is another handy trick for cleaning and shining aluminum objects if appropriately used, of course. So here’s how to make this cleaning tip a success:

  • Mix equal parts of water and dish soap.
  • Add 5 drops of ammonia.
  • Soak a cloth or sponge in this mixture.
  • Wash and rub the aluminum to make it shine.

Remember to rinse well and then dry to avoid leaving marks on the aluminum surfaces.

6. Steel wool

To quickly remove white and black stains on aluminum, steel wool is often a quick and very effective solution. Of course, you have to be extremely careful not to damage and scratch the surface of your aluminum object with this tip.

Above all, do not use the steel wool you have in your workshop to remove rust from your tools, but rather a softer and less abrasive steel wool pad. The idea with wool pads is to shine without scratching the aluminum.

7. Sea salt and hot vinegar

Would you like to test another homemade recipe for removing lime stains from aluminum? Here is another just for you based on sea salt and vinegar, which helps to remove white spots on the surface effectively. Here’s how to do it:

  • Heat a cup of white vinegar
  • Add sea salt and mix the solution
  • Form a sort of handy dough with these two ingredients

Then just rub the aluminum with circular movements and, more specifically, the lime spots and white spots with this paste. Finally, you must clean, rinse, and dry the object well to avoid stains.

8. How to clean and maintain aluminum windows?

Unlike PVC windows, which require more regular cleaning and maintenance, aluminum windows remain very easy to clean over time. Of course, an occasional cleaning, say 2 times a year is recommended to keep the aluminum clean and shiny.

  • Use a sponge with a little soapy water and rub the aluminum
  • Insist on stubborn stains to clean everything
  • Rinse and dry with a soft cloth to avoid streaks

For a stubborn stain on an aluminum frame, add a little claystone to your sponge and rub vigorously.

But be careful never to use too abrasive cleaning products because you risk damaging the aluminum.

9. Olive oil to maintain aluminum

If you are looking for a way to maintain aluminum properly, then olive oil is the quintessential ingredient in your pantry. Mix it with few ingredients, this oil-based tip is ideal for the maintenance of aluminum but also for other metals and surfaces.

Mix evenly with olive oil, dish soap, and vinegar. Spread and scrub the aluminum with a soft cloth or simply a sponge.

10. Lemon juice to clean aluminum naturally

Depending on the type of stain, lemon juice can be beneficial for cleaning aluminum and cleaning other metals as well. Nothing very complicated to succeed this tip, just rub the stains and repeat as needed for more stubborn stains.

Do not forget to dilute the lemon juice in the same amount of water before rubbing the aluminum surface. If you can, test on a small, inconspicuous area to be sure you don’t damage the object with this lemon juice tip.

If you prefer, you can also rub the aluminum directly with a lemon wedge, but do not forget to rinse quickly with water afterward to avoid damaging and staining the aluminum.
