Cast iron is convenient in the kitchen but can quickly become a nightmare to clean. If you do not take care of your cast iron utensils and accessories, you may have difficulty cleaning them properly. We offer below several tips to clean iron quickly as well as to remove rust easily.
1. Clean a cast iron pot with lemon
Lemon or just lemon juice can be useful for a multitude of household chores in the house. So why not use the power of lemon to clean the cast iron?
Sometimes the bottom of the pot is very greasy and, therefore, difficult to clean thoroughly. Fortunately, there is a natural trick, which is to use a lemon.
Here’s how to do it:
- Rub the cast iron cooking surface with half a lemon to quickly remove grease and other residues.
- Rinse and dry to finish cleaning the cast iron.
2. Protect the cast iron cooking surface
If you rarely use your cast iron pan, it is best to protect the cooking surface. A poorly protected and poorly maintained cast-iron surface risks rusting much faster.
So to protect the cast iron surface, rub the bottom of the pan with a paper towel and olive oil.
This protective layer of olive oil is an effective and natural tip to prevent rust from settling on the cast iron.
3. Baking soda
For cleaning dirty cast iron, baking soda is the solution. Often used for various household chores at home just
- Add water to cover the bottom of the pan or baking sheet
- Then sprinkle with baking soda and leave to act for 1 to 2 hours
- Rub with a cloth to finish cleaning the cast iron
Be careful not to forget the water in the bottom of your stove or cast iron pot even longer because rust could form there.
4. Remove rust in a cast iron pan
How to clean a rusty cast iron stove? If rust is present at the bottom of your cast iron pan, you can use salt to remove everything.
If rust forms on the surface, the pan may no longer be as effective as it was at the start. So here’s how to use salt to remove rust:
- Sprinkle salt in the bottom of the cast iron pan.
- Use a soft bristle brush or cloth to scrub the entire rusty surface.
- Push the cast iron back to finish to make the cooking surface non-stick as when you bought it.
Be sure to remove all rust before proceeding to the pelletizing stage of the cast iron pan.
5. Removing rust on the cast iron, another trick
Another tip for removing rust from cast iron is using a newspaper or a cloth with white vinegar.
- Rub the cast iron surface with a ball of newspaper soaked in vinegar to remove rust from the bottom of the cast iron pot.
- Rinse with water and dry thoroughly to prevent rust from forming on the surface again.
6. After cleaning the iron, what do we do?
Once the rust and coarse dirt have been removed, the vegetable oil is the last step in maintaining your melting pot.
- Bring water to which you have added vegetable oil.
- Continue cooking over low heat for about 1 hour.
- Rinse and dry the entire surface of the cast iron pan or pan.
- Rub the bottom of the pot or pan with a paper towel and vegetable oil.
This last step is crucial to keep your pot (or other kitchen utensils) in cast iron in excellent condition.
