How to Clean Old Silver Jewelry?

August 10, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Are your old silver jewelry dull? If you have beautiful silver jewelry but don’t dare wear it because it has tarnished over the years, maybe you will be happy to know that you can restore it to its former glory at the help with tips and tricks.

Thanks to Curiosity Insight, discover some simple and inexpensive tips for cleaning silver jewelry.

1. Cleaner for silver jewelry

Of course, you can always fall back on commercial products to clean your silver jewelry. It is sold in jewelry stores, cleaning products specially designed for silver jewelry.

2. A little vinegar

The best home-made tips for adding luster to your silver jewelry are to make a small bowl out of foil and fill it with vinegar at room temperature. Let the silver jewelry soak overnight.

3. Hot saltwater

If you don’t have vinegar on hand, use warm, salted water instead and let your favorite ring soak for a few hours.

4. Hot water and soap

Some people will prefer a less drastic treatment and will opt for a solution of hot soapy water in which they will soak the silver jewelry. Unfortunately, this trick is not as useful in making gold or silver jewelry shine new.

5. Rub the jewelry with a lemon

A single lemon may be enough to clean your silver jewelry. Bring your toothbrush that you have previously soaked in lemon juice. Gently rub your silver ring, necklace, or bracelet. Rinse everything and dry with a lint-free cotton cloth. Your silver jewelry will shine again with all its sparkles.

6. Baking soda

You have neither vinegar nor lemon. Never mind. You can make your jewelry shine with a toothbrush and baking soda. You will only have to moisten the toothbrush in water and coat it with baking soda, then rub the jewel using this paste and then rinse with clear water.

7. Toothpaste to clean silver jewelry

Toothpaste will advantageously replace more corrosive products if you use it to restore luster and shine to your silver jewelry. You will proceed in the same way as for the baking soda, and you will rinse your jewelry thoroughly afterward.

8. A little soft drink

Some silver jewelry enthusiasts prefer solutions that require less time and less rubbing. Also, they use a carbonated drink such as Coca-Cola and let the jewelry soak for about twenty minutes. You only have to rinse and polish with a soft cloth afterward, the silver jewelry.

9. A little breadcrumbs

Bread crumbs are an effective and inexpensive alternative. Rub the silver jewel against a slice of fresh bread, which will absorb all the dirt and make the jewel shiny.

10. Rub a piece of jewelry with cigarette ash

Finally, a solution that seems somewhat unusual to restore luster to your silver or gold jewelry is to rub it with a cotton swab dipped in cigarette ash. It appears that it works wonders. This tip was given to me by a non-smoker who assured me that this tip was undoubtedly one of the most effective.

11. Soak overnight with beer

Let the jewelry soak overnight in a bowl filled with beer. The next day, rinse them and dry them with a cloth.

12. Aluminum foil

Wrap your jewel in aluminum foil and put coarse salt before closing. Immerse it in a pot of hot water and boil it for 10 minutes. The result is impressive!

13. Olive oil and lemon juice

Combine 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 1/2 cup of lemon juice in a large glass bowl large enough to place a small microfiber cloth in it to soak up the homemade cleaning solution. Wring out the cloth after it gets wet and uses the fabric to polish the silverware. Rinse silver items in clean water and dry them with another clean microfiber or cotton flannel cloth.

14. Lemon Juice and Powdered milk

Combine 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice with 1/2 cup of instant milk powder and 1 1/2 cups of water in a glass bowl. Soak your items overnight in the mixture. In the morning, rinse with cold water and wipe dry with a soft microfiber or cotton flannel cloth. Double or triple the ingredients, if necessary, to accommodate larger silver coins.

15. Lemon juice and baking soda

Create a paste with 1 part baking soda and 4 parts lemon juice – fresh or bottled – in a glass bowl. Dip a lint-free cloth in the solution and rub it on the teapot or sterling silver jewelry. Wipe the entire item with the homemade paste; When finished, rinse with clean water and wipe it dry with another clean cloth. Lemon juice, like vinegar, reacts with baking soda by generating bubbles that can effectively clean an item if left to soak for a few minutes as well. Use the mixture immediately, as its effectiveness wears off quickly when it stops bubbling.

16. White chalk stick

Clean the jewelry using a toothbrush previously rubbed on a chalk stick. Then wipe off with a cloth: full shine and no inconvenience for the stones.

You now have all the cards in hand to make your silver jewelry last! We are counting on you to bring them back to life, and take care of them!
