The oven racks get dirty very quickly, especially if you cook a lot like me. Food falls soon from the dishes and hangs on the grid to stay there. We share our best tips and some natural products to clean the oven rack easily and, above all, effectively. Good cleaning!
How to Clean Oven Racks?
1. Cleaning the grid in the dishwasher
If you want to keep the oven racks clean, why not clean them after each use?
Indeed, you can place and wash the oven rack in the dishwasher after use, if necessary. But make sure to remove the food residue burnt and stuck on the grill before cleaning it in the dishwasher.
2. Simply soapy hot water
If you make a habit of cleaning the rack regularly and inside the oven, then simple soapy water should do the trick.
Take the time to clean the grill every week like this:
- Soak the oven or bbq racks in hot soapy water (see boiling).
- Leave to act until the food stuck on the grates softens.
- Rub with a sponge or cloth to clean the entire surface and allow it to dry to finish.
3. Clean the oven rack with baking soda
Baking soda is one of the “darling” products on 10-trucs.com! Well, did you know that it can also be used for cleaning the oven rack?
- Fill the bath with hot water and add baking soda.
- Soak the grid in hot water and leave to act for one hour.
- Then rub the grid with a damp sponge on which you will have poured baking soda.
- Rinse and allow to dry before replacing it in the oven.
If you prefer, you can also use soda ash instead of baking soda in this cleaning tip, just as effective.
4. Use black soap
Black soap is an increasingly popular cleaner used in homes. It is found in many of our tips and tricks on the site.
As it is both a cleaning and degreasing product, black soap is useful for cleaning oven and barbecue grates.
- Soak the grates in hot water for a few minutes.
- Then rub the grates with a sponge and black soap, emphasizing stubborn stains.
- Rinse, let dry, and put the racks back in the oven.
5. Stripper for the oven
If the oven rack is foul with food burnt and sticking all over the place, then the oven stripper is the solution.
- Spray the product on the whole grid and leave to act for a few minutes.
- Then rub the grid with a cloth or sponge.
- Rinse and let the grill dry to finish.
Wear gloves to protect your hands and ventilate the house when using an oven stripper as it is a compelling product.
6. A metal brush to clean everything
One product that you should have at home is the metal brush. There are several models of barbecue brushes that can also be used to clean the oven racks.
This metal brush is handy for effectively removing burnt food stuck on the grill. Combined with a degreasing product, your oven rack will quickly return to its initial state.
7. Rub with a steel sponge – steel wool
Always to clean a foul oven rack, steel wool is an excellent solution to get rid of stubborn stains and residue!
Steel sponges or pads can be purchased at the store for this type of cleaning. Just rub each of the grids and finish with a cleansing with soapy water to degrade everything.
8. Clean a rusty oven rack
Cut an onion or potato in half, and sprinkle half the salt. Then polish the grill of your barbecue with. Finally, wash the grid with soapy water and rinse with clear water.
9. Ammonia descale easily
It is a great product which makes it possible to detach, clean, descale easily, this is why it enters many formulas of household products. When pouring ammonia into a container, bucket, gas, the ammonia escapes; its vapors can be very unpleasant or even harmful. It is precisely on this gas that we count to clean the oven rack. To activate its action, we will deprive the product of oxygen, which will allow the ammonia gas to be released.
Outside the house or on the terrace, put ammonia in a large garbage bag, add the grid to clean, close the bag tightly, and leave to act for several hours. The result is stunning. You have to wipe. All the tasks disappear quickly without really rubbing.
If you have to clean the oven simultaneously, put a container with ammonia inside and close the door. The oven and the rack will be cleaned at the same time. Leave the oven door and the kitchen window open while the ammonia fumes disappear.
10. keep the wires clean with aluminum foil
When the oven is clean, it can still be used to clean the rack in many situations. You have to be careful not to resale the oven; for this, the universal pan or aluminum foil can protect the bottom.
To avoid dirtying the grid, cover it with baking paper to cook the pizza and other pies and patties. You can also keep the wires clean with aluminum foil. Wrap the wires in coarsely kneaded aluminum foil or cut strips with which you will carefully surround each wiring. This more delicate way allows the air to circulate better in the oven. You get the same performance from the oven, and instead of cleaning the wires, you remove the paper that protects them. It is not very ecological, but for some people with reduced mobility, elderly, it is a perfect solution. The papers should only be changed after several uses.
If you choose chemical solutions, proceed in a ventilated room or outside to avoid breathing any products’ vapors. Wear gloves, even if you use natural products like baking soda or black soap because you will clean them with hot water, see very hot.
If you plan to brush the grates, be careful to protect them well around the cleaning area as you are likely to throw burnt residue all around. Brush outside, if possible, to avoid repainting the entire kitchen!
Try cleaning grills that are hot, not hot, but still warm, grease comes off more quickly, and degreasers are generally more effective when hot.
