How to Get Rid of Dandruff Naturally at Home?

August 14, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Hair is an essential part of our image; maintaining a healthy and shiny scalp is everyone’s desire. Still, the presence of dandruff is one of the impediments because it is not a disease, but a cosmetic problem that, for those who suffer from it, can be quite embarrassing because of the itching and flaking that occurs.

Dandruff appears when three factors are present simultaneously, such as:

A microbe: We all have a microbe called Malassezia globosa on our scalp.

Scalp fats: This microbe breaks down these fats. and produces a skin-irritating agent called oleic acid, better known as “sebum.”

Skin sensitivity: About 50% of the population has skin sensitive to oleic acid, which ends up causing dandruff.

If you have dandruff, you have surely tried every type of anti-dandruff shampoo you have found, although many damages your scalp even more.

If you are in this situation, we present some natural remedies to combat dandruff:

1. Olive oil in the fight against dandruff

When dandruff originates from excessively dry scalp, olive oil is a good solution. Its fatty acids deeply nourish the hair in a way that helps reduce the accumulation of dead cells and impurities. To develop this method, heat two or three tablespoons of olive oil to a warm temperature. After separating the hair into strands, apply it with gentle massages. Finally, make sure it is absorbed well, it is also recommended to leave it on overnight. It may be advisable to repeat the process until dandruff and dryness are controlled.

2. Yogurt

Wash your hair as you usually would, then pour plain yogurt over your head. You can adjust the dose according to the length of your hair. Gently massage with your fingertips and leave on for about twenty minutes. Rinse thoroughly and repeat with each shampoo, then less and less often as dandruff subsides.

3. White vinegar

White vinegar is ideal for fighting fungi and bacteria due to its high content of acetic acid. Besides, its application reduces itchy scalp and cleanses hair follicles to promote healthy hair growth. To do this, dilute ¼ cup of white vinegar in half a cup of water and use the mixture to rinse your hair. Let it dry, so the smell fades and uses it up to three times a week.

4. Apple cider vinegar

The natural acids in apple cider vinegar help regulate the natural pH of the scalp. It should be mentioned that this serves to promote the rapid removal of dandruff. First, combine equal parts apple cider vinegar with water and gently massage it all over your scalp. Afterward, leave it to work overnight and rinse it off the next day with your usual products. It is advisable to repeat the process every day until this condition is controlled.

5. Tea tree essential oil

Compounds in tea tree essential oil help inhibit the growth of the yeasts that cause dandruff. To carry out this process, add 10-12 drops of tea tree essential oil to your regular shampoo. It is usually recommended to use the mixture created generally in the washes.

6. Lemon juice to prevent dandruff

Natural lemon juice contains natural acids that help control imbalances in the scalp to prevent dandruff and skin infections. Its application profoundly cleanses the hair and provides nutrients to the hair follicles to promote healthy growth. First, combine equal amounts of lemon juice with water. Later, pour it into a spray bottle to facilitate its application. Separate the hair into several strands and spray the liquid all over the scalp proportionally. Finally, let it act for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.

7. Aspirin as a dandruff treatment

This medicine is an excellent ally against the fungi that cause dandruff. Its high content of salicylic acid deeply cleanses the scalp while curbing this problem. To make this remedy and end dandruff and itchy scalp, crush two aspirin tablets and mix them with two tablespoons of your usual shampoo. Wash the hair with the mixture, massaging very well, and let it act for five minutes. Finally, rinse with plenty of cold water and repeat the procedure with each wash until the problem is solved.

8. Coconut oil to restore scalp

Coconut oil restores the scalp, reduces the presence of dandruff and bacteria and relieves itching in the area. Its application also hydrates the hair roots, promotes growth, and reduces dead cells. To benefit from this remedy, extract the juice of half a lemon and mix it with three tablespoons of coconut oil. Then, gently massage the product over the entire scalp and leave for 20 minutes. After this time, rinse the hair as usual and air dry it, repeating the treatment up to three times a week for optimal results.

9. Hydrates hair and removes dead cells with aloe vera

Aloe vera or aloe gel has antibacterial and antifungal properties that significantly reduce the presence of fungi. Also, it hydrates the hair and removes dead cells. It is one of the active compounds in many hair products because it mitigates not only dandruff, but also hydrates, repairs, and eliminates itchy scalp. It is as simple as extracting two tablespoons of aloe vera gel, rubbing it all over the head with a gentle massage, and leaving it to act for 20 minutes. Then rinse with water and a mild shampoo and repeat every day or a couple of times a week.

10. Eliminates fungi with baking soda

Baking soda has multiple benefits to take care of the health of your hair. Among them, it eliminates the fungi that cause dandruff and deeply cleanses the scalp to contribute to hair regeneration. You just have to prepare a paste with two tablespoons of baking soda, one tablespoon of lemon juice and three tablespoons of water. Dampen the hair and apply this combination with gentle circular massages. Let it act for 15 minutes and rinse with cold water. Use it two or three times a week to remove dandruff, and you can also add a tablespoon of baking soda to your shampoo.

11. Beetroots to combat dandruff

Boil the roots of the beets in water (especially the one most recommended to combat dandruff is white), and, from this water, you should massage the scalp with your fingertips every night.

12. Dried thyme

Prepare a rinse with three tablespoons of dried thyme in a cup of water, which should boil for 10 minutes. Pour the mixture on clean hair and do not rinse it. Apply this preparation every time you wash your hair.

13. Use mint with vinegar

Boil 1 tablespoon of mint in a cup of water for 3 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let cool. Add 3 tablespoons of vinegar and apply it to the scalp.

14. Use honey and egg

Mix a tablespoon of honey with an egg. Apply to the head and massage in a gentle, circular motion. Wash later with shampoo.

15. Wash with beer

Since beer has yeast, it is very beneficial for the hair; we recommend you wash your head every night with a bottle of this product. Like olive oil, in addition to curing dandruff, beer makes hair look shiny. Of course, do not wash before going outside, as the ethyl smell would be a bit embarrassing.

16. Consult with a physician

If you have excessive dandruff, it is advisable to visit the doctor.
