An automatic garage door
For motorists, there is a good and a wrong way to open the garage door: style=”color: #000000;”> This is particularly apparent when you arrive in the evening after a long day in the rain.
- Possibility 1: Turn off the engine, remove the key, get out, unlock it, balance the massive gate, get back in the drier, start the engine, and drive-in.
- Option 2: Press the button, enter.
No question: who once had an electric garage door drive in use, would not miss this. And there are hardly any reasons not to have one.
Recommended models work with DC, are virtually maintenance-free, hard to hear, consume little power, and are available from 200 euros. Also, they provide additional protection against burglary.
When a thief tries to pry open the gate, it will automatically resist. The installation is done quickly and easily.
When you have made a decision, the installation follows. This one is not as hard as you might expect. In our construction manual, we show you how it works!
Material List for the automatic garage door drive
Material: Garage door drive, in the example Rademacher Rolloport S2
Tools: wrench, screwdriver, drill, pliers, hacksaw, centimeter measure
Cost: About 200 euros
Duration: about one to two hours
Preparations for the remote-controlled garage door
The installation and programming of a modern drive take just over an hour but increases comfort over the years. In the first step, the drive must be assembled.
1.) Measure and mark the center of the upper edge of the door, the lintel, and the garage ceiling to install the rails in the center.
2.) Now connect each of the three tracks. To do this, first place them on the floor in the correct order and thread the chain into the middle one. Famous: The chain belongs in the middle rail.
3.) The two connectors are used to fix the rails.
4.) Tension the drive chain with feeling: not too tight and not too loose.
5a.) Now place the drive housing on the rail.
5b.) insert the appropriate connector onto the drive and let it snap into the rail.
6.) Then use the cordless screwdriver to screw the drive housing to the rail with the two brackets.
Mount garage door drive
Now it is essential to fasten drive and rail in the middle of the lintel. Important: The distance between the goal (in all positions) and rail must not be less than 1.5 centimeters.
1.) First, draw the position of the camber angle and the two fastenings of the rail to the ceiling.
2.) Then drill all six mounting holes with a 10 mm masonry bit. Attention: Do not dig too deep!
3.) Fix the camber angle with the provided hexagon screws and fix the rail to it.
4.) Attach the track with the drive to the ceiling. A second person is helpful for this step, but not essential.
5.) Mark the fixing holes for the gate bracket and mount it with the hexagon screws.
6.) Now fix the angle with the door connector at the correct distance (try it out first). Two hexagon bolts suffice.
7.) Using a bolt, fasten the door connector to the door bracket and insert the securing pin.
8.) Attach the information signs, such as at the gate itself and on the wall.
9.) Engage the carriage, power the drive, and start a test run.
10.) For the gate to close and open properly, the programming follows.
Expert Tip: Installation Check
Check that the drive is suitable for the garage door type and the garage door height. This information can be found in the operating instructions and on the manufacturer’s website. Also, note the minimum and maximum fall heights of the drive. The garage door drive requires a free socket. If present, dismantle all existing door locks and keep them well.
Check that the door opens and closes smoothly and adequately. In the case of overhead doors, try out whether it is in equilibrium. Open it about a meter and then let it go. In this position, it should stop now.
If the door does not meet these requirements, you should first have it adjusted by a specialist.
