How to Make Alkaline Water with Lemon?

August 31, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

The properties of this alkaline drink of lemon and bicarbonate are fabulous. When I tell you, I’m sure you’ll become a regular consumer of this drink. The benefits of taking lemonade every day are great and better if we add a small spoonful of sodium bicarbonate.

It is well known that there is a huge variety of soft drinks in the market. There are all the colors, flavors, stabilizers, with sodium chloride, with flavor enhancers, all of them with a large amount of sugar and in the worst case with sweeteners, many of them potentially dangerous.

It is a pity that you continue to acidify your body with toxic substances and to fill the pocket of the multinationals, as it is straightforward, very fast and cheaper to make an alkaline drink of lemon and bicarbonate, refreshing and frankly good for your body.

How to make lemon and bicarbonate alkaline drink

This lemon and bicarbonate alkaline drink is swift and easy to prepare, and it is also very cheap (about € 0.60 per liter). It should be the substitute for all the commercial drinks you are currently drinking, regardless of the brand they are.

To prepare this alkaline drink of lemon and bicarbonate, you only need:

  • Lemons (2 or 3 units)
  • Running water (1 liter)
  • Sodium bicarbonate (1 teaspoon of coffee)
  • If you want to sweeten the drink, do not use sugar. Instead, you can use Stevia powder, which is a 100% natural sweetener. There are also liquid Stevia concentrates, which dissolve easily.

Benefits of drinking water with lemon and baking soda

The properties of this simple alkaline lemon and bicarbonate drink are inherent in the two ingredients it incorporates. The lemon, although it is a very acid fruit (pH = 2.3) has the property that, once assimilated by the organism, it has a very alkaline behavior (pH = 8.5). For its part, sodium bicarbonate is a very alkaline substance (pH = 8.5).

First of all, I recommend reading this post to find out what is the alkaline lifestyle, what is the pH and how alkaline foods and beverages can help you alkalize your body.

The alkaline drink of lemon and bicarbonate is a very nutritious and healthy drink, with very low caloric value and a high content of vitamin C.

Properties of Lemon

Contains Vitamin C, Bioflavonoids, Pectin, Citric acid, Minerals (calcium and potassium), Essential oils (carotenes, alfatujeno, limonene, etc …). This citrus has fabulous properties for our body, namely:

  • Antioxidant
  • Alkalizing
  • Cardioprotector
  • Diuretic
  • Detoxifier
  • Stimulant of the Liver and Pancreas
  • Moisturizing
  • Remineralizing
  • Tonic
  • The balance of body pH
  • Stimulates the immune system
  • Stimulates the circulatory system
  • Prevents kidney stones and can even dissolve them
  • Stimulates the digestive tract facilitating digestion

It also has other associated benefits that will come in handy to keep us in good health:

  • Influenza
  • Anticancer
  • Antibacterial
  • Antiviral
  • Hypotension
  • Etc…

The lime and the grapefruit have similar characteristics to the lemon; for that reason, its consumption is equally beneficial.

Properties of Sodium Bicarbonate

Sodium bicarbonate itself is a first buffer substance in the body, being present in the body’s biological fluids.

The property of buffering is essential to control the variations of pH in the blood, which could have disastrous consequences. Our pH in the blood should be maintained between 7.35 and 7.45.

Changes towards values lower than 7.35 are undesirable due to the negative effects on our organism. During intense or prolonged sports activity, lactic, pyruvic, acetic, carbonic acids, fatty acids, etc. are generated. With the help of sodium bicarbonate, we managed to keep it at the ideal values, preventing the acidosis produced by these acids from lowering the pH value below 7.35.

This would have very negative consequences such as the appearance of headaches, muscle fatigue, vomiting, dizziness, etc. In some extreme cases, the “sudden death” of the athlete could occur due to reaching a degree of acidosis so high that there is a metabolic block of all the reactions of the organism.

Sodium bicarbonate helps neutralize the excess of positive ions (H +) that accumulate in the blood and keep your pH in the correct range.

It is scientifically proven that sodium bicarbonate increases the lactate threshold. This is very important since it delays the appearance of fatigue and muscular fatigue, being able to make much longer and faster journeys. For this reason, adding sodium bicarbonate to the lemon juice will result in a very moisturizing and remineralizing beverage.
