How to Reduce Your Water Consumption?

October 13, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Clean water is essential and it is necessary not to waste it. In this age of caring for our planet, it is necessary to reduce your daily water consumption. But now, how to waste less water?

Curiosity Insight offers below some tips and advice to reduce your water consumption significantly. Good reading!

1. Reasonably quantify the water level in the washer

When doing a load of laundry, it’s essential to choose the right amount of water to add to your clothes. Depending on the number of clothes, program your washing machine so that the amount of water required equals the proportion of clothes in the machine.

A straightforward trick that will reduce and thus waste much less water on machine washing your clothes.

2. Only run the dishwasher when it is full.

Sometimes we tend to throw in a load of the dishwasher even if it’s only half full. To save water, it is best to wait until it is filled before operating the dishwasher.

Thus, you will limit the too frequent use of your dishwasher.

3. A shower instead of a bath

Taking baths is nice, but it’s best to avoid taking them too often. To wash while saving water, it is better to take small showers. Of course, you shouldn’t stay too long in the shower.

A shower lasting 5 to 8 minutes is more than enough to wash thoroughly.

4. Bottle your water

When we drink tap water, we often tend to run it for a very long time to be very cold. The water will indeed be unconscious after a while, but you will have wasted a lot of water for nothing.

Buying a carafe of water that you then fill to put it in the fridge turns out to be a better option for consuming water without wasting it.

5. Limit watering of the lawn

We say it regularly, in summer, we must avoid overwatering our lawn. Of course, if it wets little or not at all, it will probably have to be watered. Take care to limit the watering time so as not to waste water unnecessarily.

Another tip to prevent your lawn from dying during periods of drought is always to leave a reasonable length of the grass. An extended property will be much more resistant during heat waves.

If you cut the lawn too short, it will not stand up well to heat, pests, and weeds. Choose a length of 8 centimeters for a beautiful property.

6. Wash and rinse your car without wasting water

When washing your car, instead of using too much water with the watering can opt instead to fill one or two buckets of water. The watering can is an accessory for a continuous flow of drinking water.

With a bucket, you will be limited by the unusual amount of water in it. Indeed, washing and rinsing your car with just two buckets of water is not always possible, but give it a try to see!

You can also wash your car less regularly than usual. It is thanks to these few small gestures of everyday life that we will succeed in wasting less water on the planet.

7. Fill the sink to wash dishes

We all know people who let the water run while washing dishes by hand. Imagine the waste of water associated with this way of doing things, it’s appalling, yet we continue to let the water flow for nothing.

So the next time you go to wash the dishes by hand, it is better to fill the sink to use a small amount of drinking water.

8. Turn off the tap when brushing teeth.

For some, it’s a matter of habit. Brushing your teeth with tap water running is a significant waste of drinking water.

We must, at all costs, get into the habit of turning off the tap when we brush our teeth and also take the time to make children aware of the importance of doing it too.

9. Opt for water features without a garden hose

Summer is fun to play with water games. On the other hand, many will have to be connected to a garden hose, which also wastes a lot of water for nothing. So better to choose games in which a small amount of water should be used.

Of course, do not deprive your little ones of playing outside with water. It is fun for them; it is crucial not to deny them to playing and having fun!

10. Use leave-in products

More and more cleaning products will no longer require rinsing. By using this type of work, you will, therefore, still save some drinking water at home.
