How to Remove Chocolate Stains?

June 29, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Did you just stain a garment with chocolate? Although chocolate is very delicious and for nothing in the world we would accept to do without it, crumbs may fall, melt and stain our clothes or even our furniture or our floor.

It’s not pleasant, but don’t worry, there are ways to clean these chocolate stains thoroughly. Do you want to know more?

So here are some simple tips for removing chocolate stains:

Remove fresh chocolate stains

If the stain is still fresh, it is necessary to act quickly to manage to remove it entirely. To do this, it is advisable to remove the excess chocolate with a spoon or a table knife. It is vital to ensure that the stain does not spread over the other parts. Once the chocolate has been removed, mix a drop of liquid detergent in a bowl of cold water.

Indeed, chocolate contains an oil-based dye element, and lukewarm water may appear to be the best option for removing it. However, the chocolate may cook, which will accentuate the proliferation of the stain. The best method is to gently rub the stained area with a clean sponge or cloth soaked in the mixture.

Care should be taken to extend the cleaning beyond the area in question and to avoid any demarcation. Soak the fabric for 15 minutes in cold water and gently rub the stain every 3 to 5 minutes until they disappear before rinsing thoroughly with cold water. To ensure that the stain clears completely, put the fabric in the machine according to the washing program recommended on the label. This method can be used on any type of fabric, whether cotton, wool, silk, wool, or synthetic.

If an oily stain remains, use a stain remover and put it on both sides of the fabric to make sure it is well impregnated. Leave to act for a few minutes depending on the size of the stain and wash the laundry generally in the washing machine. Before drying it, it is necessary to check that the stain is no longer visible. Air dry at the start to make sure no chocolate remains. Repeat the previous steps if the stain is still present.

Method for removing old chocolate stains

Older chocolate stains usually have a dark color and are more difficult to remove than newer ones. For clean, rub the stained area with liquid detergent or dishwashing detergent and soak the garment in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes. Repeat this action until the stain disappears. If the fabric is white, using a chlorine-free bleach is harmless to colors. It is also possible to use a whitening pen. These methods are only suitable for white fabrics, as they can damage the color. Finally, rinse the laundry thoroughly with cold water and check that there are no traces left.

Here is a tip particularly popular with our grandmothers. To clean a chocolate stain, take your milk bottle out of the refrigerator then

  • Pour it over the stain.
  • Rub the fabric between your fingers.
  • Leave to act for ten minutes then head to the washing machine.

There will be no trace left.

  • Pour a little of this mixture on the stain.
  • Leave the mixture to act for a few minutes on the chocolate stain.
  • Rub the stain to remove the chocolate altogether.
  • Repeat if necessary if there is still chocolate left.

3. Remove reason juice with glycerin

  • Apply glycerin on the chocolate stain.
  • Wait twenty minutes to let everything work.

4. Baking soda

  • Pour a few drops of water on the chocolate stain.

8. Corn starch

Cornstarch to make a chocolate stain go away … Yes yes!

  • Moisten the chocolate stain quickly.
  • Pour cornstarch directly on the moistened stain.
  • Rub gently with your finger.
  • Rinse in the washing machine and hot water.

Removing chocolate stains from upholstery

Removing a chocolate stain from upholstery can be particularly tricky. Indeed, chocolate is more easily fixed on the fibers.

1. knife and ice cube

  • As with stains on clothing, gently scrape off excess chocolate with a knife or card stock.
  • Put ice cubes in a small plastic zippered bag (like a small ice bag) and place it on the stain for about 10 minutes to harden the remaining chocolate.
  • Remove the ice pack and scrape out the hardened chocolate.

2. Powdered soap or dishwashing liquid

A chocolate stain on a white garment or a white tablecloth?

  • Pour a little powdered soap or dishwashing liquid over the chocolate stain.
  • Add a little water to form a paste.
  • Lightly rub the stain with this mixture of soap and water.
  • Rinse to remove this chocolate stain altogether.

3. Essence of turpentine

  • Pour a little turpentine on a cloth
  • Rub the chocolate stain until it is completely gone.
  • Finish cleaning the stain in the washing machine

4. Hot soapy water

  • Mix warm water with laundry soap.
  • Soak the stained chocolate item of clothing in a tub of hot, soapy water.
  • Leave on for 30 minutes.
  • Then rub the chocolate stain and place the garment in the washing machine.

Remove chocolate stains from non-washable fabrics

When the chocolate is deposited on a non-washable fabric, it is necessary to wait for it to dry and gently remove the chocolate from the fabric. Rub the remaining stain with a sponge until it is clean, taking care not to wet the area too much. More persistent stains may require additional cleaning. If this is the case, apply a little liquid detergent to a sponge and gently dab the stain until no trace remains. Finally, dry with a dry cloth.

Removing a chocolate stain can be particularly difficult, but it can still be done using the right methods.
