Your child’s hockey equipment doesn’t smell very good …
After a hockey game, it is very typical for bad odors to settle in the bag, on the clothes, and all over the equipment.
Sweat and humidity do that, and of course, it’s never pleasant! Want to get those bad smells out? So here are some tips to combat that putrid smell of hockey equipment.
1. Empty the hockey bag
When you get home, hurry to open your hockey bag and empty it. Proper ventilation will certainly not hurt.
2. Soak your hockey equipment in the pool
And yes! It is a house trick which consists in putting everything in the swimming pool for 1 hour or 2. Attention, it is not necessary to put the skates nor the gloves on the other hand.
3. Use fabric softener sheets
You can put one or two sheets of fabric softener in your hockey bag, so that pleasant smell is diffused on your hockey equipment.
4. Wash hockey clothes regularly
Don’t wait for several games before washing your hockey clothes! The odors will be even stronger in your bag! Do it very regularly and especially after each match.
5. Dry in cold air
For clothes and even for the hockey bag, put them in the dryer and dry with cold air for a good thirty minutes.
6. Use baking soda against bad odors
Empty your hockey bag and sprinkle some baking soda inside. Leave on overnight, and the next day shake everything up.
7. Add perfume to the wash
When washing your hockey clothes in hot water, add a pinch of salt to your favorite bath salt when the last cycle arrives. Leave to soak for 15 minutes before completing the final sequence.
8. Dry wet runners
If you’ve been sweating a lot in your skates, you can blow some air inside with a blow dryer. Then pour a little talcum powder to remove bad odors from your hockey skates.
9. Remove bad smells from the skates
Do your skates smell strong? So do this: Mix a little talc with boric acid (sold in stores) and pour it into your skates. Wait overnight, empty the mixture and brush the inside of your skates.
10. Spray Febreze on your hockey equipment
It will be perfect for removing or reducing bad textile odors from your hockey or any other sports equipment.
