How to Remove White Stains From Wood?

June 15, 2020 By Miranda Jackson Leave a Comment

Do you have the bad habit of placing a glass of water, a coffee cup, or a hot plate on the coffee table or on the side table or the console table?

Removing a white stain from a wooden piece of furniture is not always easy! Fortunately for you, curiosityinsight.com  now offers you easy tips and tricks to quickly remove white stains from wood.

1. Remove a white stain on wood with an abrasive sponge

You just removed the hot coffee cup from the wooden coffee table and oops there you have an ugly white spot! Above all do not panic it is possible to clean this white stain with an abrasive sponge and a little soapy water.

Just gently rub the white spot with the sponge taking care to rub in the direction of the wood stripes. Add a little soapy water or simply liquid soap on the stain to clean the wood well.

2. Remove a white stain with a cork

Here is another somewhat original tip, which nevertheless effectively removes white spots on varnished wooden furniture. The cork stopper is really effective in removing a white stain on varnished wood caused by the heat of a coffee cup or a hot plate for example.

  • Use a real cork and cut it in half.
  • Rub the white stain with the cork.
  • Always rub in the direction of the wood stripes.

Be careful not to rub too vigorously because you may heat the varnish on the wood and thus make it very shiny.

If after cleaning you notice a lot of shine on the wood at the level of the old stain you can use the abrasive sponge to rub and thus remove this polish.

3. Rubbing alcohol to remove white spots

Another remedy for quickly removing a white spot due to heat or water is rubbing alcohol or alcohol at 70 if you prefer. Just use a soft cloth or a small cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol and rub the white spot.

The downside with this 70 alcohol tip (but also for other tips and tricks) is that it may also remove the wax and or varnish from the wooden surface. You will, therefore, have to put a thin layer of varnish or wax to complete the cleaning.

This is why it is preferable to use this trick on natural wood only so as to avoid removing the wax layer.

4. Baking soda against white spots

It is no longer a secret; baking soda is a natural product that you must have in large quantities at home! Why, because this natural product makes it possible to clean everything…. Or almost at least!

Here is how to clean this white spot with baking soda :

  • Add a teaspoon of cold water to 2 teaspoons of baking soda.
  • Mix well to form a kind of dough.
  • Take the paste and rub the white spot with circular motions.
