The thermal paste is the component responsible for diverting the heat produced by the processor and GPU of the graphics card by driving through the heatsink that is responsible for expelling this thermal load to the outside.
Why should we change the thermal paste?
While it is true, many do not know the critical role of pasta, if this is not in good condition, the temperature of our computer will increase, producing downturns in the production and response of the system or even causing severe problems such as the power failure of our computer suddenly or damaging our processor.
How often should we change our thermal paste?
Well, there is no specific time since it depends on the use and quality of the paste, for this we must monitor the temperatures of our computer and the functionality of the fans, in case they are working hard. The temperature is high; It’s time to change it.
On the other hand, it is recommended to make the change every time we extract the heat sink since when we remove it, we can cut the heat conductivity.
How will we change it?
First, we will enter the interior of our computer by removing the side cover.
Step 1: The heat sink will be removed with great care so as not to damage any of its components and the pressure locks.
Step 2: Here, we will find the motherboard of the processor; we can extract it or leave it in place. Preferably and if you know the anatomy of your computer, removing it is the best option.
Step 3: We will proceed with the cleaning of the waste in both components to make sure everything is in order, we will do it using alcohol and paper or some very soft fabric (like cotton) to leave shiny and free of all the old material.
Step 4: Once the dissipator and processor plate is clean, wait for it to dry or dry with the same material that we clean, and start applying the paste, pay attention to this: The thermal paste should be placed uniformly Regularly in a weak layer (about a millimeter) in both components to promote conductivity.
Step 5: We will place all the components in their place in the same way that we extracted them, being careful not to run the thermal paste through the plate and without leaving residues in other parts of the computer.
How long should I wait?
Generally, the action of effect is immediate, although some types of thermal paste need a coupling time of 12 to 24 hours, so be patient and give a little time to notice the results.
